Our Story

Thank you for visiting our site. We are Tom Guyton and Debra Coe from Austin, Texas. We met in our mid-fifties, fell in love, and have now been married twelve years. Between the two of us, we have six grown children and several grandchildren who all live nearby. We recently retired and are now living our dream of traveling near and far through places of incredible natural beauty. Here we share photos, videos, poetry, and written word designed to inspire others to experience nature’s wonders at a soulful level.

Our journeys into nature are a bit different from others. As older adults, we no longer seek the extreme physical adventures we may have once been drawn to. In fact, the activities we prefer are often not listed among “things to do” at any destination. Instead, we resonate with John Muir’s quote, “People ought to saunter through the mountains.” To Muir, and to us, the wilderness is nature’s cathedral, and she invites us to enter with awe and reverence savoring all we experience whether that be a glorious sunrise, the wind whistling through the trees, or the antics of a tiny beetle munching on a leaf.

Our deep appreciation for nature began as kids and was in large part fueled by scouting programs, camping trips, and family time spent in the great outdoors. That desire to deeply experience nature and to travel has never waivered.

The love for travel also spilled over into Tom’s work life. As co-founder and  owner of Horizon Meetings, a company that sourced and planned conferences and conventions for businesses and associations all over country, Tom traveled extensively for over twenty-five years. Among Tom’s favorite activities was personally making sure attendees with mobility issues had full access to ADA services. Now, as we travel through parks and forests, we are mindful of the opportunities and challenges these places provide for those with limited mobility.

It’s little wonder then that this combined personal and professional love of travel and deep appreciation for nature has led us to create this space where we can share our experiences and reflections with others. We hope you’ll enjoy traveling vicariously with us and reading our insights. May this spark a desire in you to journey into wild and beautiful places with new eyes to see all the glory and wonder nature longs to share with us.

You might be an artist who would like to introduce yourself and your work here or maybe you’re a business with a mission to describe.
